Former UK policeman arrested as sex-slave trafficker

Police in Bangkok on Wednesday arrested a former member of the
British police force and charged him with international trafficking
in human sex workers.

Officers said they arrested Ian Suttleworth, 42, e a British police
officer, on charges of luring an unidentified Thai woman into forced
prostitution in England and Scotland.

He was picked up at an apartment house in the Suan Plu area of
central Bangkok, police said on Wednesday.

He was charged with taking the woman, whose identity is being
withheld, on a zigzag trip to England. He seized her passport and
forced her to have sex with numerous clients in a string of English
cities including London and Coventry, as well as in at least one
unidentified location in Scotland.

The woman told police she had borrowed 530,000 baht (about 8,500
British pounds, about $17,000 at the time) to cover her trip to
England. She was told by Suttleworth that he would find her a job in
a restaurant somewhere in that country.

The woman ended up in forced prostitution after she had been traded
for some 28,000 pounds - 1.7 million baht - to a female pimp she
could identify only as "Mam", at a London restaurant.

Scottish police arrested the woman procurer and rescued the Thai
woman who was promptly returned to Thailand.

Mr Suttleworth and the arrested English woman pimp were allegedly
connected with nine other human-trafficking suspects arrested earlier
