school books were from th USA. Tagalog was not used much as a written
language. I bought an English Tagalog phrase book that my filipino
friends laugh at because of the spelling and definitions.
Mindanao was Spanish speaking.
I have visited the philipines several times since 1971 and found the
filipinas are not hesitant in asking for gifts such as TV sets.
No matter where you go you should know what work you will be doing
before you get there and have the money to support yourself for
probably one month plus for a return ticket.
You should learn the native language of the country you go to soon
after your arrival. The countries have schools and private tutors.
I think my choice would be Cambodia if I planning a move to Asia.
I have no credentials as a teacher but for my survival I would
possibly seek work as an English teacher. My second choice would be
Thailand.
If I opened a bar I would possibly end up being my best customer.
I could also find work helping to teach in the trades since I have
done general building maintenance most of my life.
