This looks like a message for Alan to give a reply.
I know nothing about Japan. I have been there only a few times and never felt welcome. That might be my fault. I know today's Japanese are not the same as the ones that bombed Pearl Harbor.

I am sure you can find work as an English instructor in Asia. I am surprised at how well many Asians that have never been far from home speak English. The spot where this hit me was SHV, Cambodia. There were girls around high school age selling fruit on the beach that spoke English as well or better than children that age in this country.
They told me they have English class one hour per day.

I suspect their English teacher had to learn Khmer to do such a wonderful job.

I do exchange emails with a Khmer lady that works for an English teacher as a nanny in Siem Reap.
