This, in a nutshell, is why my television is turned on only about once every six months or so. Watching it, I feel bombarded with the message that "This is what is fashionable, this is what you must wear, eat drive, own, participate in, etc. ad infinitum."
As I said in introducing myself, I am engaged to an Asian-American woman, who is the most beautiful person I have ever known inside and out. For me, it is a delight simply to be in her presence. I find I need someone whom I find beautiful and trying to follow "society's definition" of beautiful never works for.me.

Miss Universe
We are bombarded everyday with beauty contests like Miss Universe and shows like Extreme Makeover, as well as People Magazine featuring the most beautiful people in the world, all trying to answer the question "What is beauty?". Furthermore, advertisements abound that offer the definition of beauty, selling products by selling hope of
either making oneself more beautiful or maintaining one's
beauty. We have taken for granted what the definition of beauty is according to society, but have you really stopped to ponder what is beauty, really? It might surprise you.
What do you think of beauty contests and the pursuit of beauty in the modern world?
